← Back to Stride MCPConnect Stride to Claude or ChatGPT
Support · support@runstri.de
Stride connects your Strava and WHOOP data to Claude or ChatGPT using an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Once connected, your AI assistant can answer real questions about your training: recent runs, weekly mileage, WHOOP recovery, heart rate zones, and more, using live data from your accounts.
The connection is read-only. Stride can never write to your Strava or WHOOP accounts, and your AI assistant cannot make changes to your data.
What you need
- A Strava account with some activities logged.
- A Stride account. Stride securely manages the Strava and WHOOP integrations for you. there are no developer keys to create or paste.
- A Stride account, free to create at app.runstri.de.
- A Claude Pro or ChatGPT Plus subscription (or higher) to use MCP connectors and plugins.
- Optionally, a WHOOP account if you want recovery and sleep data included.
Step 1: Set up your Stride account
2
Open Settings, choose Connect beside Strava, and authorise the connection. Stride stores the resulting connection securely in your account.
3
(Optional) Choose Connect beside WHOOP and authorise it in the same way.
4
Copy the Stride MCP URL. It is the same secure endpoint for every athlete: https://mcp.runstri.de/mcp. You will use this in the next step.
Step 2: Add to your AI assistant
Claude
1
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add connector.
2
Search for Stride in the directory, or paste your MCP URL directly. Click Connect.
3
Sign in with your Stride account when prompted. Claude will redirect you back automatically once authorised.
4
For best results, create a
Claude Project, add the connector there, and paste the
Stride skill into the Project instructions. This tells Claude how to use Stride effectively.
ChatGPT
1
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Connected apps and click Add app.
2
Search for Stride or enter your MCP URL. Click Install.
3
Sign in with your Stride account when prompted.
4
When starting a conversation, make sure Stride is selected as an active tool. Unlike Claude, ChatGPT does not automatically activate connected apps. if Stride is not selected, ChatGPT will not use your training data.
What you can ask
- How has my weekly mileage changed over the last 6 weeks?
- What was my best long run this month?
- How does my WHOOP recovery score correlate with my training load?
- Was yesterday's run actually easy? Show me heart rate zones.
- Am I building volume too fast?
- Should I replace my running shoes?
- Summarise my sleep and recovery this week.
- How does this month compare to the same period last year?
What the connector cannot do
- Write to or modify your Strava or WHOOP accounts
- Access data from other apps (Garmin, Apple Watch, etc.) unless they sync into Strava
- Push training plans or calendar events (use the full Stride app for that)
- Provide medical or physiotherapy advice
Session timeouts
Your connection between Claude or ChatGPT and Stride may expire after a period of inactivity. If this happens, you will be prompted to sign in to Stride again from inside your AI assistant. You do not need to reinstall or reconfigure anything, just re-authenticate and the connection resumes.
Troubleshooting
Strava will not connect
Return to Settings and try the Strava connection again. Make sure you approve Stride's requested access in the Strava window.
The connector returns no activities
Check that you have activities recorded in Strava and that the Strava connection is active at app.runstri.de. If the connection shows as active but no data appears, try disconnecting and reconnecting Strava.
WHOOP data is not showing
Make sure you have connected WHOOP in your Stride dashboard. WHOOP is optional. If it is not connected, the connector will only return Strava data.
