Stride connects your Strava and WHOOP data to Claude or ChatGPT using an open standard called MCP (Model Context Protocol). Once connected, your AI assistant can answer real questions about your training: recent runs, weekly mileage, WHOOP recovery, heart rate zones, and more, using live data from your accounts.
The connector can read the data you authorise, but it cannot create, change, or delete data in your Strava or WHOOP accounts.
What you need
- A Strava account with some activities logged.
- A free Stride account, created at app.runstri.de. Stride securely manages the Strava and WHOOP connections for you; there are no developer keys to create or paste.
- A ChatGPT plan that supports apps, or a Claude plan that supports connectors. Availability and plan requirements are set by each provider.
- Optionally, a WHOOP account if you want recovery and sleep data included.
Step 1: Set up your Stride account
2
Open Settings, choose Connect beside Strava, and authorise the connection. Stride stores the resulting connection securely in your account.
3
(Optional) Choose Connect beside WHOOP and authorise it in the same way.
4
Copy the Stride MCP URL. It is the same secure endpoint for every athlete: https://mcp.runstri.de/mcp. You will use this in the next step.
Step 2: Add to your AI assistant
Claude
1
In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and click Add connector.
2
Search for Stride in the directory, or paste your MCP URL directly. Click Connect.
3
Sign in with your Stride account when prompted. Claude will redirect you back automatically once authorised.
4
For best results, create a
Claude Project, add the connector there, and paste the
Stride skill into the Project instructions. This tells Claude how to use Stride effectively.
ChatGPT
1
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Apps and choose Add app.
2
Search for Stride when it is available in the Apps directory. Until then, choose the custom-app option, enter your MCP URL, and click Connect.
3
Sign in with your Stride account when prompted.
4
When starting a conversation, make sure Stride is available as an active app. ChatGPT may ask you to enable or select it before it can use your training data.
What you can ask
- How has my weekly mileage changed over the last 6 weeks?
- What was my best long run this month?
- How does my WHOOP recovery score correlate with my training load?
- Was yesterday's run actually easy? Show me heart rate zones.
- Am I building volume too fast?
- Should I replace my running shoes?
- Summarise my sleep and recovery this week.
- How does this month compare to the same period last year?
What the connector cannot do
- Write to or modify your Strava or WHOOP accounts
- Access data from other apps (Garmin, Apple Watch, etc.) unless they sync into Strava
- Push training plans or calendar events (use the full Stride app for that)
- Provide medical or physiotherapy advice
Session timeouts
Your connection between Claude or ChatGPT and Stride may expire after a period of inactivity. If this happens, you will be prompted to sign in to Stride again from inside your AI assistant. You do not need to reinstall or reconfigure anything, just re-authenticate and the connection resumes.
Troubleshooting
Strava will not connect
Return to Settings and try the Strava connection again. Make sure you approve Stride's requested access in the Strava window.
The connector returns no activities
Check that you have activities recorded in Strava and that the Strava connection is active at app.runstri.de. If the connection shows as active but no data appears, try disconnecting and reconnecting Strava.
WHOOP data is not showing
Make sure you have connected WHOOP in your Stride dashboard. WHOOP is optional. If it is not connected, the connector will only return Strava data.
Still stuck?
Email support@runstri.de and include what you were trying to do, your browser or device, and the email on your Stride account.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a ChatGPT plugin?
ChatGPT calls this kind of integration an app. Claude calls it a connector. Both connect securely to the same Stride MCP service.
Do I need a separate Stride account for ChatGPT or Claude?
No. Use the same Stride account and the same Strava and WHOOP connections you manage in Stride Settings.
What is the MCP URL?
The secure connector URL is https://mcp.runstri.de/mcp. Use it when your AI assistant offers a custom-app or custom-connector option.
Why do I have to sign in to Stride?
Signing in confirms which Stride account and connected providers the assistant may access. It keeps one athlete's training data separate from another's.
Can the connector change my Strava or WHOOP data?
No. The connector can retrieve the training and recovery data you authorise, but it cannot create, change, or delete anything in Strava or WHOOP.
Can I use both ChatGPT and Claude?
Yes. Connect each assistant to the same MCP URL and sign in to the same Stride account when prompted. Their availability and account requirements are set by ChatGPT and Claude.
How do I remove access?
Remove Stride from the assistant's Apps or Connectors settings, then disconnect Strava or WHOOP from Stride Settings if you no longer want Stride to retrieve new data.
